Robert W. Hefner is Professor of Anthropology and Global Affairs at the Pardee School for Global Affairs at Boston University. He has published twenty books and more than 140 articles, many focused on Islam and Muslims in Southeast Asia. His most recent book was as editor, Routledge Handbook of Contemporary Indonesia (2018). He is currently completing a book on politics and the quest for a modern Islamic public ethics in Indonesia.
