Sabine Schmidtke is Professor of Near Eastern and Islamic studies at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ. She is a scholar of Islamic intellectual history whose pioneering research has transformed perspectives on the interrelations and connections among different strands of intellectual inquiry, across time, place, religions, and philosophical schools. Schmidtke has applied rigorous study to the edition and critical analysis of manuscripts in Arabic, Judeo-Arabic, and Persian, and her work extends from Arabic-speaking countries to Israel, Iran, Russia, and Turkey. SherAli Tareen is Professor of Religious Studies at Franklin and Marshall College. He is the author the award winning books Defending Muhammad in Modernity (University of Notre Dame Press, 2020) and Perilous Intimacies: Debating Hindu-Muslim Friendship after Empire (Columbia University Press, 2023). His third book is called Shah Waliyullah Dihlavi: Aspirations and Tensions of Islamic Cosmopolitanism which is scheduled for publication in Oneworld Publications’ Makers of the Muslim World series in July 2026.
