The Center for Islamic Studies at the GTU invites you to “Scholarship, Leadership, Activism: Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union” on Thursday, May 4, at 9:00 am in the GTU Library’s Dinner Board Room at 2400 Ridge Road. This first annual CIS student symposium will feature presentations from more than 15 current students and graduates of the GTU’s MA and PhD programs in Islamic Studies. Panel discussions will explore five themes: Studying the Islamic Tradition in Academia, Researching Muslim Diversity and Identity, Teaching and Pedagogy in Islamic Studies, Engaging the Public Sphere, and Expressing Faith through Creativity and the Arts. The all-day conference will conclude with a keynote address by CIS Director Munir Jiwa.
