Confronting Islamophobia Speaker Series: “Combating Islamophobia”
May 11, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
About the Lecture
At this moment in our nation’s history, there is an unprecedented need for interreligious education and engagement around Islam. Much of the fear-mongering around Muslims is grounded in a deep mistrust of shariah, or Islamic religious law. This three-part speaker series will not only foster intelligent conversation around the specter of shariah in the American context, but also look at the myriad ways in which law and justice are refracted through the experiences of American Muslims today.
In the third and final lecture in this series, Corey Saylor will delve into combating Islamophobia in the United States.
About the Speaker
Corey Saylor is the director of the Department to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Saylor combats anti-Islam legislation nationwide, working to remove biased materials from law enforcement counterterrorism trainings.
