Moving Beyond “Us vs. Them:” Teaching about Islam in Tumultous Times, Part IV

March 31, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Registration requested.

Dr. Megan Abbas, Geneseo History professor, will be the speaker for this seminar. According to many political and media sources, the West and the Islamic World are currently engaged in a global confrontation over culture and values. This seminar challenges us to push beyond this polarized “clash of civilizations” rhetoric and to understand the War on Terror as a political rather than a cultural phenomenon. In the process, we will examine the dangerous history of constructing “cultural enemies”  and possible ways of locating a middle ground.
