Graduate Colloquium in Ottoman Studies
August 3, 2019 | Istanbul
Application Deadline July 22, 2019
Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies at George Mason University and the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries Studies at Marmara University invite proposals for the inaugural meeting of the Annual Graduate Colloquium in Ottoman Studies to be held in Istanbul on August 3, 2019.
The Colloquium will bring together advanced PhD students who have already passed their doctoral examinations at the time of application and scholars whose expertise closely align with accepted papers.
The Colloquium is motivated by the fact that the explosive growth of interest in Ottoman studies in recent decades has made field-wide exchange of knowledge increasingly challenging and gave rise to studies that are not well-conversant with the broader field.
The Colloquium aims to provide a forum for PhD/ABD students to present their theses at an early stage for critical feedback from expert scholars; facilitate engagement and interaction in the broader field of diverse research projects, interests, and approaches; coordinate, and facilitate research and writing.
The colloquium welcomes papers from all aspects and regions of the Ottoman Empire, including history, literature, art, and archeology. Papers in the form of thesis proposals alone will not be considered.
